"Speak tenderly to them. Let there be kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in the warmth of your greeting. Always have a cheerful smile. Don't only give your care, but give your heart as well." (Mother Teresa)

With much regret, we like to inform you that we have decided to not proceed with the regular face to face Summer School program for 2020 due to COVID-19 situation. We want to err on the safe side and to protect our volunteers and our students. Also, both the US government and Vietnam government had issued several restrictions and increased travel risk advisory for traveling to Vietnam.

  • As of March 22, the Vietnamese government suspended entry into Vietnam to all foreigners, including people with a Vietnamese visa exemption certificate (for further details, please see the Vietnamese government’s website here). Entry restrictions have also been placed on travelers with Vietnamese citizenship or permanent resident status.
  • All incoming travelers to Viet Nam shall be subject to mandatory centralized quarantine for 14 days, applicable since March 21 at the request of Vietnam’s Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.
  • The U.S. Department of State’s Global Level 4 Health Advisory applies to, and includes, Vietnam. On March 19, the Department of State implemented a Global Level 4 Health Advisory advising U.S. citizens to avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19.

Until all the restrictions have been lifted, which we do not know when at this moment, we cannot travel to Vietnam. Plus the children may be expected to make up for lost time by going to their regular school during the summer. It is difficult to make any types of plan for MOL’s Summer School Program. We are sorry to have to make the decision to cancel the Summer School program for this summer 2020, since it cannot be implemented as planned. We will resume the program for Summer 2021. Please consider reapplying for volunteering again.

In the meantime, we will be investigating and implementing the online/virtual classroom where the children can be taught virtually. This requires video and audio equipment to be installed in each classroom. Fundraising efforts are in work to implement this program. We will be recruiting volunteer teachers to teach English and Character/Confident building skills online. It will be 2 – 4 hours a week per volunteer. If you are interested to teach online, please contact us. Lesson plans and materials are provided by Messengers of Love.

I wish you and your family a safe and healthy journey through this tough time.

Sincerely,
